The latest session in our Wise Women talk series was attended by women from range of organizations and industries. Besides nibbles and networking, the purpose of the event is to discuss the challenges women face in business.

Although the 23-strong team from Brazil may be feeling a little crook this morning, 30 Auckland businesswomen and the TakeON! team feel inspired and empowered after this week's Wise women event.
Hon. Heather Roy shared insights of her life not as a soccer player, but as pretty much everything else - physiotherapist, politician, army reserve officer, board member and mother, musing on the question ‘Can women have it all?’
So can they have it all? Heather spoke of the path that she carved to success, working in environments that have traditionally been dominated by men. That included the struggles of entering the military at age 42, and pursing a career in politics while raising five children. Now she sees the biggest challenge that we face as building the potential of women in the workplace. She stressed though, at the same time we must avoid giving girls special treatment at the expense of our boys.
The night concluded with a few of us working out Heather’s maths equation (50:1:5) about our own lives (Age: Number of husbands: Number of kids). The middle number in particular was quite daunting to some, especially when they started including dream celebrity husbands! (None of whom were from the Brazilian World Cup team, unsurprisingly...)
