Do you understand how you got where you are today? Do you realize how much has been achieved by imagining where you wanted to go? You and everyone around you can achieve more by looking to the future!
Our personal lives are filled with dreams and plans for the future. How often do you apply the same thinking to what you want to achieve at work? Should you even differentiate between work and personal goals?
I grew up in the desert, but I always dreamed of being on the water, sailing around the globe, having the freedom to travel wherever the winds took me. Fishing, scuba diving, snorkeling: I sought out opportunities to experience that different world – so close, yet so distant, from my reality. I learned new skills. I took my work to other areas of the world. I constantly pushed beyond my comfort zone to ensure I was prepared for the future.
Eventually the opportunity came to base myself on beautiful islands near the water. But the “chance” to do so didn’t involve chance at all. For over 15 years I’d been laying the groundwork to integrate my ‘personal’ and ‘work’ lifestyle. Walt Disney spoke true when he said; “The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing”.
It’s possible to apply the same positive reinforcement in businesses. Getting your people to ‘Look into the Future’ and imagine their place in it will begin to take the whole company on the journey. Don’t you think everyone would be willing to stretch themselves that much further today if they understood that doing so would help them achieve what they want for tomorrow?
